"I'm just wondering, since it seems like it won't be long until the Bible is under copyright again."
~Seto-Kaiba_Is_Stupid

Surely anyone reading this statement would naturally assume abysmal ignorance of what's PD on the part of its author, as most translations of the Bible certainly ARE under copyright.

What's more, the second oldest English translation, the Authorised Version of the Bible (known informally as the King James Version and first published in 1611) is, and always has been, the property of the reigning monarch of England, so that anyone wishing to publish it must be granted a license by Queen Elizabeth the Second, its current owner.

Technically speaking, we have no more right to excerpt lengthy passages from the KJV and publish them online than we do Associated Press articles or the works of Stephen King. Not every owner of the rights to a Bible translation is necessarily as generous as Queen Elizabeth, so it's safest to assume that ALL Bible versions are off-limits until careful research proves they aren't.

The assumption to the contrary shows that the prize booby posting in this thread is the OP, not those who patiently and diligently tried to assist him/her.

This thread was intended as a very bad joke. I can't believe people took it seriously. I mean, really, didn't including "Roundhay Garden Scene" sorta give it away?

Surely, the Bilble is under copyright, as every written work is. You are allowed to quote lengthy passages for academic purposes. Other than that, you are not or have to ask permission from the owner of the copyright.

no, that doesn't do it. If you have information regarding information about copyright on media even to new kids or old timers(like myself) we expect you know what you are talking about.
